Continuous Process Improvement Case Studies

Case Study - Continuous Process Improvement (CPI)

FSI has provided Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) support to a variety of clients within the Department of Defense and commercial areas. Of note, the FSI CPI team adheres to a “holistic” approach to process improvement, and this approach drives FSI, as we work with our clients, to improve cost, schedule, and performance objectives. The FSI “holistic” approach is not based upon a specific model or methodology, but more importantly, is driven by aligning the most applicable models or methodologies in order to optimize organizational improvement. Within FSI, our CPI team includes American Society for Quality (ASQ) certified Six Sigma Black Belts / Six Sigma Green Belts, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Experts, Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) subject matter experts, and ASQ certified Reliability Engineers.

FSI CPI personnel have supported projects that have contributed to cost savings, cost avoidance, cycle time reduction, and process waste elimination for both operational and engineering related activities. For example, a project for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) resulted in over $3 million dollars in savings.Through the use of two CPI models (CMMI, ITIL), and a CPI methodology (Lean Six Sigma), our team leveraged emerging technology and data consolidation in order to reduce the number of disparate software applications by 80% (19 to 4).

Overall, FSI CPI projects have won multiple awards, including the California Team Excellence Award, International Team Excellence Award for Best Use of Emerging Technology, and the Department of Navy Information Management/ Information Technology Excellence Award.
